the Deveses meadows

A birdlife paradise in rich and varied bioesfera

The tour starts on the GR 10 path on the bank of the Santillana reservoir, a real paradise for the local birdlife.  You can watch the birds from the bird hides without being seen yourself.

When you arrive at Devesa Boyal or Prado Herrero meadows, you must turn left and carefully cross the busy road that links Soto del Real with Manzanares.  The tour goes north between stone walls which enclose the ash, oak and cork oak fields.  On the left you can see the beauty of the intricate rock formations of la Pedriza, as the path gradually brings you closer to el Forat de Sant Blas, the highlight of another Burricleta tour.

El Berrueco, a granite stone that is so big that it seems impossible that it can keep its balance, is another of the attractions on this tour.

When you arrive at the Palancares reservoir, you continue on the GR 10, taking the right hand fork on the path.  The oak and ash fields on either side of the path demonstrate the local farming tradition and you will often see cattle on the farms.  Tits, green spotted woodpeckers, owls and greenfinches are just some of the inhabitants in the branches of these trees.

A short while after crossing the Prado de l'Ensancho you take a small, quiet path which runs between oak trees and big blocks of granite, going around the Verge del Rosario church.  It is worth deviating a little from the route to climb up to the church and to see the magnificent panoramic view of some of the most emblematic elements of the Serra de Guadarrama, like the Serra d'Hoya de Manzanares, Cabeza Illescas, La Pedriza, el Forat de Sant Blas and la Cuerda Larga.

Following the path you wind around the residential areas and summer residences of the town of Soto el Real where you can take a break and have a stroll around or have breakfast.

After leaving this town behind, you begin the last part of the tour.  The wide, comfortable path goes alongside the boundary wall of Devessa Boyal and leads to a resting place at Casa de los Berros where you continue on the GR 10.  The there are many pasturelands in Spain which is the town's common land where the townspeople are free to graze their herds.

From this point, the tour to Manzanares el Real continues on the same route which you took on the way out, first by the Cordel de Prado Herrero and then on the small path that follows the banks of the Santillana reservoir.
